Wild Talents: Charm me once… [Day 5 of 6]

Charm is a bit less effective with extras than the previous stats, as the rules for Charm are rather bland (even non-existent). So, let’s work with what we’ve got. There are 2 Extras that jump out at me immediately, which would be fantastic for any ‘face’ in your super team.

The first is a Pheromone type adjustment… “Subtle”. Being able to use your Persuasion or even your Lie skill without speaking. People look at you, and just realize you wouldn’t lie to them, or that you really just need their help. It would also allow you to generate emotions in others, such as love or anger.

The other is Daze. Your words cause confusion, make it harder for people to concentrate… mix it with subtle, and just being around you may make people speechless, unable to focus their thoughts, etc.

Since there’s so little to thematically do with Charm, I chose Charm as a place to suggest another option for Stats. How does charm work? We know all stats have an Attacks, Defends and Useful. But how do their ranges work? Our options for how they work though is either “Self”, “Touch” or “Range”. Which of these it is is usually obvious. Body and Coordination tend to be “Touch”, Mind and Sense tend to be “Self” (sense they can’t, by default, project outwards), and Charm tends to be “Range” since it is invoked by words. But there’s a limitation on there. They require words. That’s an If/Then, right?

So option 3, remove a flaw… Remove that If/Then, and you can charm people who are too far away to hear your voice. It’s more than Subtle, which would still require them to at least see you, now you could charm someone by giving them the “Evil Eye”, well outside of Charm’s potential range. Alternately, this could also be done (If, say, your GM disagrees with this interpretation), by adding the Range capacity. 😉
