Conception (UK) Monsters Game

Monsters and Other Childish Things will be running at Conception next week...

Title: Three's A Crowd
System: Monsters and Other Childish Things
Players: 6 (3 Kids, 3 Monsters)

James is totally in command and gets what he wants because Mother has an important business and makes lots of money. Also, he has a hideous monster from non-euclidean space as his BFF. Despite this, and astoundingly good grades, he doesn’t appear to be popular at school.

Tim is a sandy haired little fella that gets on with most people, but can’t pluck the courage or the right words to win the heart of Jessica. His monster is always giving him advice, which sounds very good at the time, but never seems to work out right.

Jessica is cute as a button, a mass of curls and big brown eyes. She’s a Princess. Everyone says so, especially Daddy. Her teddy often turns into a dribbling abomination that eats people, but that’s naughty.

The monsters have their own alien desires and unfathomable motivations, but mostly they love fighting. The only thing they love more is their kid. Shame they’re always getting their kid in Trouble, with a capital T.

Excellent!

What's its time slot? I don't see it on the games schedule.

Regrettably, my computer falling over again meant I lost what I'd intended to run and didn't have time to recreate it. Instead I picked the Sunday morning hangover slot to run a bog standard game of Monsters.

I had originally intended to run this for four players, but took five in the end as someone wanted to watch initially, but that's weak sauce, so I got them to bring the dice.

Jessica (Jethika) was a treat as always, and its highly disturbing how good the bearded con organiser Duncan is at playing an annoying Princess-like girl. George has anger management issues, not helped by the urbane, cigar smoking Mr Toddlepants living in his throat and not letting the medication go down. Skit was a rather scary looking insectoid thing, at least until he stole Agatha Such A Pretty Name's pink tutu and insisted on wearing it. Needless to say after setting a van on fire and killing the science teacher, all the kids were in Big Trouble.

There was a real father / daughter relationship between two of the players which led to an extra depth of the game. It started with the "God Dad, you're not playing are you? You best not try to tell me what to do!" and the usual daughter bossing her Dad about.

Why Mr Ivey, you suggest that there's doubt that it would be anything other than a great game? With me running and the awesome Monsters to back it up, obviously they had fun! ;)

Two of the players have vowed to run Monsters at future cons - one of whom if a young lady who's only been gaming 3-4 months - which is always top drawer news.

More games to run in the coming convention year. Seems crazy that it will be two years in July since my first convention outing with this illustrious game!
