History: Uwe Berthal was born in the town Farchant in Bavaria to a family of vegetable farmers. The oldest of three children, Uwe spent most of his early years learning his father’s trade, with the understanding that he would take over the management of the family farm when his father retired.
After the Great War and the resulting disastrous Weimar republic, the Berthal family fell on hard times, but managed to survive the hard times and was relatively insulated from the chaos outside of their little town. Uwe spent much of his time free time hiking and playing Futbol.
As Uwe got older, his understanding of the world came to him through the filters of the propaganda of the National Socialist Party and its predecessors. While not becoming a Nazi, Uwe began to believe in the idea of Liberstraum, as well as well as a healthy fear of Communism. When he was old enough, Uwe decided to leave the farm and join the army with a number of like-minded boys from around his town. Uwe displayed a talent for leadership and became the leader of his Gruppe, made up of his fellow villagers and other Bavarians.
He participated in the invasions of Poland and Denmark, feeling that the war was allowing Germany to gain the space needed to be a great power. His only concerns was the facts that the hated communists were not falling to the sword of the Germans, and the hear stories about some of the detainment camps and treatment of the prisoners under the control of the SS. However, the care of prisoners was not his concern, and he continued his service to the Reich.
When the word came down that the invasion of the Soviet Union was imminent, Uwe and his unit were on the front lines. He and his friends moved with the army through Russia with great fury, beating the Soviets at every turn. It was during the siege of Leningrad that Uwe became more disillusioned with the war and the brutality of the whole thing. By the winter, all Uwe wanted was to end the war and go home. But he was an officer, and his goal was to bring his men home safely. It is in the January of 1944 that Uwe manifested his powers. On patrol, Uwe’s patrol, half buried in snow, stumbled on a Russian patrol that was both larger and better equipped. Pinned down, Uwe and his men were in desperate straits. Uwe, not giving up, was desperate for a way out for his men, just to being them home in one piece, to see their homes in Bavaria once again. With a flash of insight, Uwe suddenly knew how to get them out of that situation. During the rest of the war, Uwe used his insight to prevent his troops from being massacred on the eastern front. His precognition was limited to only a few minutes into the future and only to get a hunch on what to do next to get his troops out of harms way. His ‘hunches’ only worked to the benefit of his Gruppe- in fact in several cases his hunches caused harm to other parts of the Wehrmacht. Eventually, he was discovered, and promptly sent back to his Gruppe when the limitations of this power.
By war’s end, Uwe was successful of beating most of the Whermacht back to Germany and was able to surrender to the Americans instead of the Russians. He spent the rest of his days as a scout for a pro soccer team in Nuremberg and left the family farm to his brother, Matthias.
Description and personality. Uwe is tall and thin. His brown hair is typically cut short. He walks with a limp (shot in the shin) and only has 3 fingers in his left hand (frostbite). He in general, is a serious but friendly person. He generally prefers the company of his fellow Bavarians, and distrusts outsiders. This was amplified after the war. During the war, the Uwe became more and more single-minded in keeping his men alive. By the end of the war, Uwe would have done just about anything to keep his Gruppe alive. He was never a strident Nazi, and by the end of the war, was sick of the partei.
